Position Details

Title: Business Engagement Specialist (Full-Time, Permanent)

Reports to: CEO

Compensation: $50,000 annual salary + benefits (extended health/dental, RRSP program) +

discretionary year-end bonus


Position Overview

The Business Engagement Specialist supports the growth and engagement of the Chamber’s membership base. Energetic and relationship-oriented, this position helps connect local businesses to the Chamber’s programs, services, and opportunities. Working closely with the CEO and Chamber team, the Specialist plays a key role in delivering meaningful experiences for members and enhancing the Chamber’s visibility in the business community. 

They will work on developing new membership onboarding and continuous customer care, expand existing member relationships, and growing the number of members participating in the programs and services of the Chamber. The Specialist will be goal oriented to drive new memberships, renewals, and advertising/marketing revenues, while focusing on retention and networking activities of the Abbotsford Chamber.


Key Responsibilities

Recruitment

  • Proactively connect with local businesses to promote Chamber membership and grow membership
  • Manage a membership sales pipeline and represent the Chamber with professionalism and trust
  • Develop and execute membership growth and retention strategies with the CEO
  • Close sales through follow-up calls, visits, and communication
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting using ChamberMaster CRM
  • Coordinate membership drives and engagement campaigns
  • Support Group Plan enrollment and related records
  • Assist the CEO in building stakeholder and member partnerships
  • Ensure up-to-date membership marketing materials
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator to generate advertising revenue
  • Support partnerships, including with IGL and the Chambers Plan

Engagement

  • Onboard new members with welcome packages and orientation sessions
  • Promote member tools such as the Chamber portal and newsletters
  • Manage and promote Chamber benefits and services
  • Represent the Chamber at events and build connections with members and guests
  • Lead monthly “Lunch & Learn” events and support other member workshops
  • Foster meaningful relationships that reflect members’ needs and promote Chamber value
  • Provide business insights to the CEO and Government Affairs team to inform advocacy and programming

Retention

  • Help refine and communicate the Chamber’s value proposition aligned with its fee structure
  • Implement retention strategies through regular member check-ins and outreach
  • Use CRM to track retention efforts and member notes
  • Conduct follow-ups and exit interviews with lapsed or at-risk members
  • Address overdue renewals in alignment with the retention cycle
  • Lead member focus groups and evaluate benefit offerings for relevance and value
  • Analyze service uptake and provide feedback to improve member experience
