The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, representing 750 Abbotsford business members, congratulates Christy Clark, new BC Liberal leader and premier-designate.
We look forward to maintaining our excellent working relationship with the provincial government and supporting Ms. Clark, and her caucus, as they move forward to lead our Province into the continuing economic recovery and laying a solid foundation for a very positive future for all the people of BC,” said Patricia Sapielak, 2010/11 board chair of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.
“The province is well-positioned for economic growth and we are confident Ms. ClarkâÂ?Â?s leadership will build on the solid results produced by her predecessor Premier Gordon Campbell,” she said. “The stage has been set, and measures have been put in place, to make B.C. an extremely „Business FriendlyâÂ?Â? jurisdiction which attracts new investment.
“The Chamber will continue to advocate on behalf of its members, and in reality all of the people of British Columbia, for the Government to take all measures requisite to retain the Harmonized Sales Tax to ensure a strong stable economy the will benefit everyone.” said Sapielak. “It will be to the detriment of all British Columbia to see good public policy thrown out with the political bathwater”
The Chamber recognizes and applauds the governments continued resolution to lower business taxes, especially for small business which constitutes 80 per cent of the Abbotsford Chamber membership.
The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce welcomed Budget 2011 as an appropriate budget that continues the governments prudent approach while protecting the province from future challenges.
While there is significant flexibility for the new Premier, this flexibility should not be used to threaten a return to balanced budgets or the private sector confidence that is driving our recovery.” said Chamber Vice Chair Patrick Giesbrecht.
Our members will welcome the combination of controlled spending and increased revenue that sees BC well on track to return to balanced budgets by 2013/14,” said Giesbrecht “Our members have joined with the BC Chamber of Commerce in a very succinct message that the governmentâÂ?Â?s number one priority must be to return to balanced budgets as quickly as possible.
